This armor helmet is also known as kattle hat or kettle hat. It is also called Eisenhut in German and chapel de fer in French. There are many design variations of this armor helmet and was very common all over medieval Europe. Whether it be used as a costume or in actual war, this wide brim hat or helmet was easy to wear and very useful against projectiles from above. The kattle hat or kettle hat, despite being cheap, was not that admired since it was thought to be suitable only for infantry troops. It did not have the high grace or extravagance of other knightly helms. As a costume, its ease of wear usually is most appreciated especially in fast action role playing or musical plays.
