More commonly known as kettle helmet, it is also called chapel de fer by the French while the Germans called it Eisenhut. This kattle hat was reported to have come out before the famous Battle of Hastings and the conical design was a later variation. As a live action role playing (LARP) costume or as an actual combat gear, it is very functional due to its wide brim and steel material. This kettle helmet provided excellent protection from projectiles above that is why it was very popular to the infantry. Despite being quite inexpensive, it was not that admired because it lacked the complex design of other helmets. Still, with the chin strap holding the helmet firmly, the kettle helmet should have been a lot more successful in providing protection to the wearer.
