The City of Troy lends both facts and legends to its name. It is located in the northwest of Anatolia in what is now Turkey. It is most commonly known as the setting of the Trojan War as describe in the epic poem Iliad. In 1865, English archaeologist started excavations in Hisarlik revealed that several cities were built in succession but were quite skeptical in identifying them with Troy. Eventually, the eastern half of the Hisarlik site is identified as the probable origin of the Homeric Troy. Today, a small village stands near the village and thrives on tourism for patrons that visit the Troy site. It is located inside the province of Canakkale. Hard to imagine the Trojans and their recognizable armor helmet had their humble beginnings from this corner of the world, it is even harder to imagine that this armor helmet becomes the mainstay in the costume of an American University marching band.
