Perhaps the greatest of all Italian Sculptors, Donatello completed a larger-than-life sculpture of St. George in 1417. This set the standard for the depiction of convincing Greco Roman Army armor. The Greco-Roman Army armor was so well made that one can_t help wonder if he had real models to work with. The leather arm guards or vambrace sculpted on his St. George was particularly striking and was made of a series of laminated plates with leather straps. The leather straps usually ran down the metal plates and were riveted to them. Arm Guards or vambraces of this type consistently appear in Italian art throughout the 15th century. The arm guards or vambraces in some paintings, only protected the top half or the fore arm, while the in others the cannons were fully enclosed as are most recent reconstructions. This costume design may have more protection for the actual real soldier but maybe a bit difficult to handle in a Halloween costume party. Important Features:
