Around the beginning of the 13th century in the medieval times, the need to reinforce the Roman Army armor was clearly overdue. The medieval Roman Army armor and weapons such as swords, axes, maces and even projectile weapons were proving that the ancient combination of mail, Gambeson and small armor sections could not be counted on to protect the wearer. During this time almost all armors of the crusaders in the Outremer were being exterminated by the Arabic nationalism under charismatic leaders and their offensive weapons. The Knights of Malta started to use heavier armor and came up with cuirass. Shoulders and upper arms were then protected by flexible armor plates known as a _Pauldron_. The _Upper Vambrace_ which protected the the upper arm also came to use. A later variant came about and it extended from elbow to wrist was called as the _Lower Vambrace_. In contemporary literature they were often called _cannons_ and so the full name of the element would be _Lower cannon of the Vambrace. Important Features:
