During the Roman Empire, different gladiators specialized in different weapons and tactics and had different armors. Based on the weapons that they wielded, there were several types of gladiators. The Samnites fought with a short sword, a rectangular shield, a sallet, an arm protector on the right arm and a greave or metal leg guard on the left leg. The Secutores and the Murmillones also used rectangular shields, sallets and short sword but the greaves or metal leg guards were absent. These three types of Roman Gladiators did not fight each other. Their opponents were usually Retiarii who fought with weighted nets, tridents and daggers and Tertiarii or substitutes. The substitute fights in place of the gladiator who had been billed to fight but was unable to do so. The second role of the Tertiarii was to participate in a fight requiring three gladiators when two gladiators initially fought and the winner will have to fight the third man. You should wear these costumes to costume parties or re-enactments proudly as these men fought bravely and until death. Important Features:
