A murmillo is a class of gladiator during the Roman Imperial times. The murmillo class gladiator was adopted in the early Imperial period to replace the earlier Gallus who were named after warriors of Gauls. The Gauls inhabited Italy during the Roman Imperial times and became well integrated into the Roman Empire until the time of Augustus when the Gallus class gladiators were retired. The distinguishing feature of the murmillo was the high crest on his helmet hat looked like a fish when seen together or as one. He also wore very thick loincloth, belt, full leg metal armor on his right leg, a linen arm guard and the curved rectangular shield of the Roman legionnaire. He also carried the legionnaire_s short sword or gladius. This full leg metal armor will be a great costume for re-enactments and plays but will somewhat limit movement therefore practice wearing one will go a long way. Important Features:
