In the 4th century BC, both Roman Army infantry and cavalry troops started wearing helmets, a minority of which were made of leather. The leather helmets were matched with leather armor or cuirass, peltasts and greaves. The principal weapons of the Roman Army infantry and cavalry troops were the spear and short knife. Armor was only available for the nobles and they were leather armor cuirass at first but were replaced with metal armor cuirass in the iron age. The Thracian cavalry wore leather armor cuirass or when without armor, the Thracian infantry and cavalry would be armed with javelins, bow or spear. Only royal cavalry would wear armor and the Thracian cavalry had numerous members. The helmet type used was mostly Chalcidian type helmet with a minority being the Corinthian type. In the east Balkans territory though, not a single Illyrian type helmet was ever found. Important Features:
