Similar to the other Greek states, the Spartan army was infantry-based and fought in the Phalanx formation. The Spartan army did not incorporate any significant changes or tactical innovations into the hoplite warfare except for their constant drill and superb discipline. This made their phalanx much more cohesive and effective. They were also known for their round shields, bronze or chrome, with the letter Lambda painted on it. The Lambda letter stood for Laconia or Lacedaemon. The Lambda letter was added in the 420_s BC era. The round shield wielding Spartans employed the Phalanx in the classical style of single line and 8 to 12 men deep. The Spartans would usually occupy the right flank and when the win, they would turn to the left and attack the enemy from its left side. This costume may be worn by men or women to a modern day reenactment or costume party as women enjoyed a higher status in society than men during those times. Important Features:
