After the fall of the Western Empire, much of the infrastructure needed to create the Roman Army plate armor disappeared. Subsequently the word _mail_ came to be synonymous with armor. The chainmail armor then became an extremely prized commodity as it was expensive and time consuming to produce yet it could have meant life or death for the owner. The lorica hamata was so expensive that they were taken from dead soldiers and was used by the new owners or sold for a steep price. As time went by and infrastructure improved, the chainmail armor or lorica hamata became more commonly used by the Roman Army soldiers. Finally, coinciding with the rise of the lanced cavalry charge, the chainmail armor became a secondary armor to the plate before the 14th century. By the 14th century, plate armor was commonly used to supplement the lorica hamata and eventually would supplant its use. This is the coolest costume of the bunch. I could wear this over my shirt or sweater to a costume party anytime. Important Features:
