The Edwardian War was the first phase of the Hundred Years War of the late medieval times and lasted from 1337 to 1360. This war was between the Kingdom of England and the Kingdom of France. The Edwardian War celebrated the victories of Edward III of England and his son, the Black Prince over the French at the Battles of Crecy and Poiters. Edward III died in 1377 and his grandson, Richard II was crowned King of England at the young age of 10. Just before this war, the medieval warm period slowly transitioned into a little age and caused the Great famine from 1315 to 1317. This was also the time when plate armors such as the leather and metal gauntlet become popular. The reason is that the metal armor of the gauntlet protected the user from the sword better than the chainmail and other protection.
