In addition to the World Championship, there are several other tournaments of equal stature. One of these Chess tournaments that is very popular among caliber players is the Chess Olympiad. The popular board game Chess is played on a square _chess_ board of eight rows and eight columns of squares. The colors of the sixty-four squares alternate and are referred to as _light squares_ and _dark squares_. This wooden chess board must have the light square at the right of each player. The carved pieces of this wooden chess board must be set up correctly with the Queen occupying a square of similar color. The carved pieces are divided into white and black pieces and the players are referred to accordingly. Each player starts with sixteen of these carved pieces and whoever is the first to checkmate his or her opponent_s king by placing it under an inescapable threat of capture wins the game.
