This travelling chess set includes pieces that have stems at the bottom and a board with holes that will receive the stems. The purpose of the holes on the board is to keep the pieces in place while travelling on a car, train, plane or any means of transportation that will allow you to play the board game. The board game, after all, will definitely make the longest trips seem short especially when playing the game with a travelling mate that is as strong in chess as you are. This chess set is indeed designed to survive the rigors of travel. On Bobby Fischer and his exploits of the different opening defenses, he was noted for his expertise on the Ruy Lopez where a variation is named after him and is called the _Fischer Variation_. His most famous innovation though was the Poisoned Pawn Variation of the Sicilian defense.
